Cargo Introductory

Course Objectives

The objective of the Cargo Introductory Course is to:

Provide participants with a broad understanding of the air cargo industry.
Teach the fundamentals of cargo operations including procedures, regulations, and documentation.
Introduce IATA rules and standards such as those outlined in the IATA Cargo Handling Manual (ICHM) and the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR).
Equip learners with knowledge of industry terminology, handling procedures, and responsibilities in the air cargo supply chain.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Understand the fundamentals of air cargo operations.
Apply IATA rules and regulations governing the air cargo industry.
Correctly complete and interpret air cargo documentation, such as the Air Waybill (AWB), in accordance with international standards.
Identify and describe different types of cargo, including general cargo and special cargo (e.g., dangerous goods, perishables, live animals).

Explain the cargo reservation and acceptance procedures, including security, screening, and handling requirements.
Use industry terminology and coding systems (e.g., IATA airport and airline codes, cargo IMP codes) effectively in daily operations.
Understand basic cargo pricing and rate construction, including how to calculate chargeable weight and apply tariffs.
Follow safety and security procedures to ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
